What is the Haitian Congo Festival? It is Elgin's newest ethnic festival designed to celebrate Haiti and other Caribbean cultures. It is anticipated to be a mini festival within a festival and being designed to both festive and educational.

WHY IS HAITIAN FESTIVAL TAKING PLACE DURING FIESTA SALSA?

Historically, the entire Caribbean was inhabited by an indigenous people known as Taino Indians. It is the foundational people of the greater and lesser Antilles including, Haiti, Dominican republic, Puerto Rico, and northern parts of Columbia. It is this shared cultural heritage that brings Haitians Festival and Fiesta Salsa together.

My name is Guelmine Polycarpe also known as Gigi. I am originated from Haiti and co-founder of Haitian Congo. I’ve lived and enjoyed the wealth of Elgin for the past 23 years. My passion for learning different culture has fueled me to contribute to the many activities in the Elgin community. My goal is to teach others the wealth of the Caribbean life through arts, fashions, music and a little taste of Haitian culture.
